Course Overview
The Level 2 Barbering Professional programme is part of the hair and beauty sector, with work environments ranging from small independent shops to large high street franchises. These roles are always client-facing and require strong communication and customer service skills.
A Level 2 barber provides a variety of services including shampooing, cutting, styling, shaving, and shaping facial hair. They must be skilled in working with all hair types, from straight to very curly or textured hair. Barbers are also expected to carry out client consultations, follow safe working practices, and work independently with precision and care.
Barbers interact daily with clients, team members, and other industry professionals. They are also responsible for promoting themselves, their services, and their business. This role requires professionalism, teamwork, and retail skills, all while delivering high-quality, personalised grooming experiences.

Qualification Achieved
On completion of this apprenticeship, you will hold a Level 2 Barbering Professional Apprenticeship.
- Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Barbering)
- Level 2 Functional Skills Maths (if applicable)
- Level 2 Functional Skills English (if applicable)
Progression
The role may act as a gateway to further career and training opportunities, including, but not limited to:
- Self-Employment or Freelance Barber
- Level 3 Advanced and Creative Hair Professional Apprenticeship
- Barbering Educator or Trainer

Learning and Assessment
Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.
End Point Assessment
Each apprentice must undergo an independent end-point assessment to determine the outcome of their apprenticeship. The assessments will evaluate the knowledge, skills and behaviours gained during their programme. The methods in which this apprenticeship is assessed are:
- Assessment method 1 – Knowledge Test
- Assessment method 2 – Practical Assessment
- Assessment method 3 – Professional Discussion
Entry Requirements
Entry requirements for apprenticeships vary depending on the level and type of apprenticeship, as well as the employer.
General requirements be:
- At least 16 years old,
- Not be in any other education
- Live in England.
