Course Overview
The Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship provides learners with the essential skills required to succeed in the hairdressing industry. Combining on-the-job training in a salon and learning, the apprenticeship covers key areas such as cutting, styling, and colouring. Apprentices also learn important health, safety, and hygiene practices, ensuring a safe environment for both clients and themselves.
Client care and communication are emphasized, helping apprentices build rapport with clients and deliver excellent service. The apprenticeship also covers hair treatments, including conditioning and scalp care, as well as basic colouring techniques and aftercare advice. Additionally, apprentices gain valuable business and professionalism skills, learning to manage their time, contribute to salon operations, and assist with stock management.
Most of the apprenticeship takes place in a live salon environment, offering hands-on experience with clients.

Qualification Achieved
On completion of this apprenticeship, you will hold a Level 2 Hairdressing Professional Apprenticeship.
Additional qualifications achieved include:
- VTCT Skills Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals
- Level 2 Functional Skills Maths (if applicable)
- Level 2 Functional Skills English (if applicable)
Progression
The role may act as a gateway to further career and training opportunities, including, but not limited to:
- Senior Stylist
- Hair Colourist
- Level 3 qualification for advanced techniques or management roles
Learning and Assessment
Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.
End Point Assessment
Each apprentice must undergo an independent end-point assessment to determine the outcome of their apprenticeship. The assessments will evaluate the knowledge, skills and behaviours gained during their programme. The methods in which this apprenticeship is assessed are:
- Assessment method 1 – Knowledge Test
- Assessment method 2 – Practical Assessment
- Assessment method 3 – Professional Discussion
Entry Requirements
Entry requirements for apprenticeships vary depending on the level and type of apprenticeship, as well as the employer.
General requirements be:
- At least 16 years old,
- Not be in any other education
- Live in England.
